The comfort of patients depends on the ability of doctors and nurses to understand and respect the diversity of meanings and expressions of pain. Starting from the central question of this investigation, “What is the meaning of Caring for nursing professionals in primary care to cancer patients with pain and prolonged in time for your family?” Was performed a qualitative study of phenomenology , with the target population of nurses primary care, patients with cancer pain extended over time and significant family cancer patient who are (or as professionals or as users / relatives) of the Health Centers.
Unlike in this study could suggest the outset, he speaks not only of nurses, patients and their families, tells us the heart of nursing. Understanding that the focus of nursing is the study of human response to illness and the processes of life, the nurse should be able either to them or other patients, either with these or other relatives, of diagnosing human responses to disease and the processes of life, from which a production makes possible a process of professional care in partnership with the person, based on interpersonal relationships (Meleis, 1991). So it seems today continue to investigate the fundamental cultural components of care in Portuguese society, how it is expressed and experienced professionally. Arruda (1992) goes so far as to assert that this matter, which is the core of the nursing profession, has not received the necessary attention from nurses.
