It is understood that pregnancy represents a critical moment in the life cycle of couples. Biological and psychological interfaces are complex, often ambivalent. This academic paper briefly discusses the construction of the imagined baby in the pregnancy, and the confrontation with the real baby made by the mother after the postpartum; as the same way, discusses about the interferences in the several familiar and social agents, on the relationship’s construction between the mother, father and son. It is an exploratory study with preliminary results about mother’s reports, who were pregnant or with child less than two years-old and residents of the city of Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil. During the interview dealt with the feelings and expectations about the complexity of motherhood through oral reports and reflections regarding to biological, psychological and social dimensions; and parent’s relationship. A content analysis of oral reports came from theoretical referential of pregnancy, ruled alongside the theory of qualitative research. From this brief survey suggests that the imagined baby, the mother of the host family and co-participation of the father during pregnancy, have an important impact for the future interaction of the triad mother-father-son, highlighting other interrelated issues that came from the oral reports, as teenage pregnancy, the body changes, changes in interpersonal relationships, affective ambivalence, future career, choice of sex of the baby, and the representation made of the baby. The qualitative research enabled the production of meanings beyond what was proposed, extending the discussion about the central theme and providing a diversification for other aspects that can be studied in future.
