This paper addresses to a scientific research about the process of literacy at Escola Cidade de Emaús and the social commitment of the teachers who work there. Therefore, the research is supported by reflections on the literacy by Hymes (1974 ) Street (1984), Rojo (2009), and about teachers formations by Souza (2006) and Nóvoa (2009). It has as focus the ideological model of literacy with a view to social and cultural practices embedded in society and the teachers formations based on reflection about theory and practice. The methodology used was the action-research by Barbier (2007) with qualitative approach, which the research sees, reviews and goes to end of process doing an action of permanent change. The interpretation of speech shows strong social commitment of teachers with the pedagogical practice and the worry with social literacy.
