Investigação qualitativa sobre os processos formativos de professores de odontologia

In the Brazilian context professors from undergraduate courses in dentistry are graduated in bachelor modality causing inherent low reflecting knowledge in the exercise of teaching at university education. Thus, it becomes a matter of understanding how they constitute the practice of teaching. For this, the focus was to analyze the formative processes from the qualitative research methodology as appropriate for understanding this subject matter. This study aims to analyze the contribution of qualitative research to understand the formation processes of professors from undergraduate courses in dentistry. Thus, the investigation was made on the pedagogical courses projects regarding teaching, obtaining professors academic profiles, and the identification of the experiences reported by these professors about their teaching processes. The survey was developed in the State of Goiás / Brazil, in the years of 2009 and 2010 in four stages involving documentary analysis, questionnaire and semi-structured interview. We opted for the thematic analysis, one of the modes content chosen, and it was performed data triangulation. The main findings were: on undergraduation Educational Project Courses there are few mentions of possible formative processes, training processes found were covering the influence of family, school education, interpersonal relationships, culture, socio-geographical, leisure activities and professional experience. The professors constitution are not only in the professional dimension, but also in personal as well as actors involved in this constitution can be grouped into individual, collective and / or institutional. It is considered that the qualitative approach contributed significantly to the understanding of the subject studied and allowed to emerge relevant analysis categories to the study proposal, it has been fundamental the accomplishment of the different steps that complemented allowing encompass for the complexity of the object.
