Widely used in the Anthropology of Kinship, Psychology, Family Therapy or Nursing, the familial genogram has had a restricted use in the sociological practice. This paper (re)discovers the familial genogram in the context of the qualitative research and argues that the graphical representation of families, whether as principal or supplementary instrument of analysis, is a key instrument for sociological investigation. Additionally, we highlight the use of GenoPro® software as an essential tool in the scientific representation in this field, and its use a skill to include and develop in the list of those composing the craft of the qualitative researcher working in family studies.
