In this research we analyze the difficulties to work content associated practical activities faced by “lay teachers”, in other words, professionals who have no specific training in this area of knowledge, and who are teaching chemistry in public schools in the State of Pernambuco, Brazil .We left of the presupposition that, detecting such difficulties, it will be possible to drift and to suggest actions of continuous formation to improve the quality of the teaching of that discipline. The methodological procedure used for the collection of data was the Interactive Methodology, through the Interactive Didactic Sequence and of the application of a questionnaire. They participated in the research thirty three (33) teachers, of the public net of teaching. The obtained results demonstrated a great lack of continuous formation for those teachers, that participated in the research. That text is still configured as a preliminary survey to subsidize a doctorate theory in the Program of Teaching of the Sciences of the Rural Federal University of Pernambuco-UFRPE-Brazil.
