The current text has as its goal to offer a reflection about some questions related to the so-called Shadow Education (also “tutoring”) in Contemporary times. In this reflection we give emphasis to the contemporary impact of private tutoring in the student results in Portugal and the rest of the world; to the role of tutors; to the discriminating factor that tutoring may have in the access to educational success; to the ethics of the teacher that assumes roles at the same time in the formal education and also in the shadow education; to the dimension of the work in schools in building the educational success of its students and the role of tutoring in this context. We propose to give more attention to the impact of the support that schools give to students outside the classroom and we suggest more research in this sense.
