Ethics in science education: a proposal for teaching on livestock based on socioscientific issues

Abstract

Currently is required a critical, participatory and citizenship education that takes into account the socio-environmental, scientific and technological context in which we live. The curricular proposals for science, technology, society and environment (STSE) education seek more contextualized, integrated training that contributes to the construction of sustainable societies. In this theoretical research, we aimed to understand the contributions of a teaching proposal based on socioscientific issues SSI to encourage the teaching and learning of ethics, based on the livestock theme, in science teaching. Through a literature review on ethics in science teaching, STSE education with SSI and the exploration of the livestock theme, we got conditions for the development of a teaching proposal on the livestock theme. Finally, we also reflect how this teaching proposal can be a viable strategy for, in addition to learning content in a broader and interdisciplinary way, having the opportunity to discuss values, interests and moral consideration in science classes.
