This article reports on the experience of building and implementing a continuing training program for teachers working in the initial years of Basic Education focused on the discussion and use of the History of Science (HC) in science teaching. This experience resulted from discussions about the potential of HC as an element that can encourage reflection and understanding of the nature of science, contributing to students’ scientific education. It was found that the partnership between the University and School is essential in continuing education actions as part of teaching professional development, for the opportunity to reflect on pedagogical practice that results in changes in pedagogical practice by presenting a conception that understands science as a process and not just as a product. The work developed during the continuing education course highlights not only the difficulties encountered by teachers in using aspects of HC in their classes but also the possibilities of using it in the classroom, aligned with the plans of educational institutions, at the same time as it allows us to contribute to discussions in the area, through the socialization and dissemination of didactic proposals constructed throughout the course.
