Abstract

This article proposes to advance scientific literacy in Food and Nutrition Education for the seventh grade of a public institution in the city of Cali-Colombia through an interdisciplinary Island of rationality. In this case, the study addresses two axes: (i) identification of the theoretical - methodological aspects of food education relevant to the construction of a literacy proposal and (ii) Design and development of a particular case for literacy in food and nutrition education. The research used a qualitative methodology, with a case study. Within the results, it was possible to characterize the theoretical-methodological contributions that are relevant to scientific literacy in food and nutritional education. In addition to this, the body coming from the activities carried out at school demonstrated evidence that it was possible to work on interdisciplinarity through the proposed topic, from the construction of an Interdisciplinary Island of Rationality, in the curricular component of Natural Sciences. In addition to that, the development of the attributes of Scientific and Technological Literacy was verified, such as autonomy for the organization of group activities and research, mastery of content - information on the chosen topic and its relationships with the everyday – reality, and the communication of what was learned in different situations experienced.
