We present research carried out in the Brazilian context as part of the “Futurando com Ciência” project, whose actions developed in the school environment were centered on the discussion of Sustainable Development Goal 13, which discusses aspects related to climate action at a local and global level. Our objective was to analyze the collaboration process established between university and basic education school in the context of planning and developing school actions of the New Education for Youth and Adults (NEJA). Using the theoretical-methodological framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), we discuss historical, cultural, social and political aspects of climate change, and we articulate this discussion with the Science-Technology-Society (CTS) perspective, Socioscientific Issues ( QSC) and popular education in the context of NEJA. The results and discussions considered speeches from teachers and students from basic schools and universities, which are analyzed through the lens of the analytical categories of intertextuality, representation of events and social actors and modality, seeking to highlight the process that led us to identify the situation limit that emerged in the thematic search. The final considerations highlight the potential of working on the QSC and the CTS perspective, especially when we emphasize the effects of the genuine search for the generating theme, in a process that meant the theme of climate change in the transformation of subjects, whether they are educators or students.
