Within the scope of the Master in Teaching of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education (CEB) and Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the 2nd CEB, a didactic sequence was developed in the teaching of sequences and regularities in the 6th year of schooling, in a meaningful learning context and using manipulative materials, alluded to the constructed cultural environment. In this case study, a qualitative and interpretative methodology was used. This didactic sequence had, as its motto, a set of problem solving in the real context in the Ribeira of Porto and using matches to build the proposed sequences. The students showed great taste and commitment when designing different strategies and in finding solutions. They exposed their ideas, developing mathematical communication and reasoning, in a constant individual appreciation until they reached Clever Day, an extra motivation, proposed by the “Singapore Method”. The systematization and evaluation of the taught contents revealed that the didactic sequence was a positive and significant proposal in the teaching and learning process of Mathematics.
