The article presents results of an exploratory study made with 57 basic primary, middle school and high school teachers of four Colombian public institutions. It applied a semi – organized questionnaire to identify notions about the concept of citizenship, like the knowledge and abilities that it considers students must develop to carry out coherent actions with central elements of the global citizenship. The worked results based on the analysis of contents show that the majority (57.8%) define the concept of citizenship from a perspective related with a legal and political status focused in duties, rights and rules; it recognizes as fundamental knowledge in the civil training which are associated with laws and rules (26%) and values associated with the living together (21%); and as fundamental abilities, own actions of the socio – emotional, and the civility (51%). In spite of the majority of the answers in the three analyzed questions are far from a recognition in a multidimensional way as the aspects of global citizenship; Constitute favorable elements to start an investigation and training teachers process of different subjects, which turn out to be coherent actions with a contemporaneous citizens education with global vision.
