Abstract

Science, Technology and Society Education aims to promote Scientific Literacy and contributes to a critical education, focused on citizenship. This work aimed to analyze the presence of the STS approach in the Cell Biology theme of the PNLD 2018 textbooks of the 1st year of High School, as well as the presence of Scientific Literacy indicators. This is a documentary research in which eight Biology books were analyzed. The results show that the STS approach is evidenced in the books, however much more is being discussed about Science to the detriment of Technology and Society. Regarding the Scientific Literacy indicators, the presence of articulating ideas, investigating, arguing, reading in Sciences, writing in Sciences, problematizing and the absence of indicators creating and acting were identified. The importance of textbooks to present in more detail the STS interrelationships that may converge to the expansion of Scientific Literacy indicators is highlighted.
