Within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals and the improvement process of the Cuban education system, the results of the implementation of a pedagogical model to introduce the environmental dimension in the training of the education professional in the area of humanities are exposed. The model is oriented towards humanistic training as a structuring element, it has an interdisciplinary and holistic nature, integrated into the training process. It is the result of the work of a group of Cuban researchers involved in a national project on environmental education in the training of professionals. Philosophical, methodological and ethical foundations are provided that support environmental education in the teacher training process. The environmental dimension is approached with an integrative and systemic didactic conception of its treatment, taking into account the improvement in the new programs that are developed. The political, economic and social significance of the problem imposes the challenge of incorporating all knowledge, to preserve our sovereignty, and national identity. The qualitative path is assumed as a research methodology for the application of the model. It responds to the need to approach the environmental from the social, economic, historical and cultural aspects. It starts from the problem of how to take advantage of the potential of the content. On that basis, didactic recommendations are prepared, dimensions and indicators are proposed for the application of the model in other contexts and spaces. The work aims to socialize the results and contribute with an alternative solution to the humanities.
