Involving students from the primary school in mathematical tasks that interest them and contribute to develop their number sense, allied to procedural fluency, but also to the conceptual understanding, is a constant challenge for teachers. In this study, we wanted to know how to develop the planning competence of students of the 3rd and 4th years of schooling. According to the problem under study, we follow a qualitative methodology and design a case study.
The results showed that students deepened their number sense, developed the ability to communicate and arguing, and perceived difficulties in making decisions.
