This article intends to analyse the series of short texts which constitute the narration in Pepetelas O Cão e os Caluandas by focusing on the variant traits which make it possible to refer to the book as a novel or as a collection of short stories. Using the concept of closure as an indicator of "short-storiness", this paper invesrigates the overall structural and thematic elements which permeate the book and shows that they build strong cohesive links between successive episodes which cancel the effect of closure and help to maintain continuity.
