“Cidade -mulher da minha vida”: a personificação de Lisboa nas letras de fado

Abstract

Based on the lyrics of fado about the city of Lisbon, this essay analyses the personification of the city, which is recurrent in most of these lyrics. Some speculations are elaborated in order to explore the reasons for this unique stylistic aspect of fado, as well as its origins and its function. Why is Lisbon a woman?
