Abstract

The two literary genres under analysis here, the prose poem and the short story, surface as a pair whose intrinsic connection has for long been noticed, namely in theorizations coming from writers who have written in both forms. To begin with, we can mention such names as that of the North-American writer Edgar Allan Poe, and proceed to gather many other exam ples that came after his own, like that of Cortázar and so many others more. The purpose of the present article is to examine up-close, and in broad theoretical terms, the set of properties that allow for these generic forms to join together through a set of characteristics. Brevity with all the consequences that arise from it is one such property.
