Abstract

The chronicle is a widely cultivated genre in Azorean literature, to the point of permeating other narrative genres, particularly the short story, thereby blurring the distinction between fact and fiction. This article analyzes the hybrid narratives of four Azorean writers – Manuel Greaves, Daniel de Sá, Manuel Ferreira and Dias de Melo – and shows how the chronicle influences the short story by expanding its boundaries.
