“Há coisas que a ciência não explica”: a magia negra em o sétimo Juramento, de Paulina Chiziane

Abstract

In this essay, we try to prove that both vera and David, characters in the novel the seventh oath by Paulina Chiziane, use occult powers (magic and animism) to cope with problems, even though they are Christian and educated. It is explained that this movement out of science, from religion to magic, corresponds to the return to the roots, to the origins, to the Mozambican culture that appeared weakened by the culture and religion imposed by European colonialism.
