Abstract

Taking up from the idea that, according to many studies on Portuguese post -colonialism, Portuguese colonialist praxis differed from the English paradigm, this study aims to discuss how, throughout the novel a Árvore das palavras by Teolinda Gersão, identity problems are dealt with by the inhabitants of colonial Mozambique, focusing particularly on those who, having Caucasian ascendency, were born in the colony.
