Abstract

This article presents the Epistemology of Romance, proposed by Wilton Barroso Filho, reflecting on its constitution as methodological foundation, sensibility thinking and its scientific spirit. The theoretical reference of the research is: epistemological, aesthetic and hermeneutic. We understand, in agreement with Georg Lukács and Milan Kundera, that the novel is a work derived from Modernity and that its art composes rational elements. With this, our objective of research is to find the aesthetic choices of the author José Saramago, analyzing the fundamental themes of his work and the invariance that there is in his literary architecture. We consider the Saramaguian romanesque work to be an essayistic aesthetic style that approaches, philosophically, the materialism-dialectic of Critical Theory. We conclude that literature is an important reference for understanding the being-there in which Heidegger’s conception had been forgotten by philosophers throughout European history.
