Abstract

Ara, the first novel of the Portuguese writer Ana Luisa Amaral, is a book which brings several puzzles, both in its narrative construction, as in the issues it raises. Is Ara a sacred altar which would consecrate the human? The ethereal? From this initial question, this article aims to look into the text, analysing Ara as a journey in
itself, in questioning the narrative and normative standards.
