Exodus cinematographic representations: from Cecil B. DeMille to Ridley Scott

Abstract

The biblical exodus theme has been a source of inspiration for cinema practically since the dawn of this artistic expression. Like most films devoted to Antiquity, however, the readings presented by the several film directors who dedicated projects to it changed, according to the historical context of the productions. This essay analyses those diverse ways of approaching and cinematically representing the exodus, from C. B. DeMille (1923 and 1956) to Ridley Scott (2014).
