Samuel Rawet’s degenerate short story

Abstract

The mapping, the definition and the analysis of a bias of the fictional production of Samuel Rawet, which contemplates the problematization of literary degeneration, are the objectives of the doctoral proposal in its initial phase. In this sense, I wish to build a panorama that establishes the aesthetic project of “degenerating” in Rawet’s work, considering his narrative production, specifically, the tales, starting in 1956, with the launch of the first edition of Contos do Imigrante, until 1981, with the publication of his latest collection, Que os mortos enterrem os seus mortos. Guided by the initial investigation of nine short stories, the work aims at the relations between the degenerate tale – fruit of excess mechanisms; formal experiments; and thematic recurrences around moral issues – and the discussions about its constitution and
epistemological research, undertaken by the narrators and characters that make up the initial corpus. For the accomplishment of this text, I divide the writing in two moments: in the first, I establish a general panorama of the project; in the second, I bring some elements that allow the inclusion of the tale “BRRKZNG: pronúncia – Bah!” in this reading key.
