The Homeric Poems forever shaped a way of narrating war as a “mirror of life” in which the worst and best of human beings are clearly reflected. This article seeks to show the marks that the Homeric narrative left in contemporary literary texts, taking as an example the novel The painter of battles, by Arturo Perez-Reverte.
