Based on analyses and theories of Maria Leonor Machado de Sousa (1979), Anita Has-Tokarz (2010), Erik van Achter (2010) and others, this essay analyses the imagery of the house of horror in the fiction by Domingos Monteiro, especially in the short-stories “Casa Mortuária” (1943), “Casa Assombrada” (1961) and “Casa Circular” (1967). The analyses point at various lines of inspiration or literary parallelisms which spread from tales of the macabre till the pure fantastic or scientific fiction.
