The fiction of fiction. About some short stories of Camilo Castelo Branco

Abstract

Besides being a novelist, Camilo Castelo Branco was also a much appreciated short story writer. Perhaps the best in the 19th century. In the path of Abel Barros Baptista’s studies, it is our intention to analyze some of these stories as a topic present in certain novels: that of the encounter of the writer (fictional author) with the story. We will try to demonstrate up to what extent the use of this topic, which presupposes fiction prior to fiction, is focused on the domain of narrative construction.
