O Poder da Fábula

Abstract

By questioning the theoretical considerations inherent in La Fontaine’s texts, namely in «The Power of Fables» and in the preface written by the author to accompany his book of fables, we meant to gather a set of elements which bear a significant contribution towards the understanding of the genre itself, inasmuch as the author successfully takes into account a number of the same aspects which are of relevance for today’s theoretical analysis and can even be measured by the same quality standards, given their broad range. The pragmatics of the genre of the fable, its intrinsic characteristics, and the consideration of its progeny are some of the aspects which were taken into account in the following article.
