Histórias do Ínfimo: Fabula e a Fábula na Idade Média – entre o Fabuloso e o Obscuro

Abstract

Fable will be here looked into in its double sense of fabulation and as a literary genre of Aesopian heritage, so as to identify persistent guidelines underlying the literary phenomenon from the medieval period, with Gregory the Great and the medieval Ysopets, up to the dawn of modern times, by referring to Michel Foucault’s notion of fabulation. We seek to show how processes associated with low style were already active and harmoniously in tune with the poetic process at the onset of the medieval period, then being assimilated into Christian rhetoric.
