Abstract

This paper studies the images of families who lived in the Portuguese New World as described or mentioned by the Portuguese travel literature between 1500 and 1550. It analyses the literary characterization of indigenous families, European inhabitants families established there for settlement purposes, as well as families formed by European inhabitants and Amerindian women.
