It presents the cataloging services developed at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul; addresses how the implementation and subsequent exchange and updating of collection automation systems directly impacted the cataloging practices of the libraries of this Brazilian University. It briefly describes how the transitions occurred in this socio-technical system, which involves the interaction and adaptation of its work practices from the introduction of technological tools. For this, through a sociotechnical approach, based on the analysis of the contexts of sociotechnical phenomena, the influence that collection automation software had on the alteration, transition and transformation of the socio-technical system experienced by the authors is presented. This type of analysis enabled a holistic view of the current context of the analysis socio-technical system, so that it was possible to describe, albeit objectively, the various contexts experienced and the protocols adopted to deal with the necessary and intended situations and developments, mainly with direct relation to the cataloging and information organization processes. It is observed that the transition from a centralized to a decentralized context, promoted mainly by the evolution of a technological tool, motivated and encouraged the change of professional practices and routines, such as the development of a collaborative culture.
