Chief Design Officer: O caso de Stefano Marzano e Sean Carney na Philips

Resumo

Este artigo, integrado na investigação de doutoramento centrada na afirmação do Chief Design Officer, indaga sobre o papel do designer como líder funcional capaz de conduzir a inovação a um nível estratégico, através do caso de estudo da Philips.

A Philips é uma empresa global que, nos últimos 30 anos tem sofrido mudanças estruturais significativas, transitando de uma organização onde o design é um agente externo ao processo corporativo, para uma organização que o assume no seu âmago enquanto disciplina funcional. Neste período de transição, denotam-se as influências significativas de dois Chief Design Officers: Stefano Marzano e Sean Carney, não apenas pela implementação de relações interfuncionais ou multidisciplinares evidentes nas equipas e na cultura de design em ambiente corporativo, mas acima de tudo por incluírem na visão estratégica da empresa princípios fundamentais do design.

Os resultados deste estudo contribuem para o conhecimento pela asserção de condições em que o design atua como disciplina funcional e estratégica em empresas lideradas por um Chief Design Officer.
