Use of wheelchair for the elderly with lower limb fractures: an ergonomic evaluation
Abstract
Population aging in Brazil and worldwide is leveraging and with it the population growth of the frail elderly, which increases the demand of families and professionals who use various approaches to intervene in the quality of life of this population. Considering this significant number, reviews and ergonomic adjustments must be made. The wheelchair is a non-invasive hospital medical equipment, or used on the outside of the patient support. Being one of the resources of assistive technology, is configured as a facilitator in carrying out everyday activities of people who have difficulties or restrictions in mobility. This research aimed to investigate the physical implications concerning the existence of pain or discomfort in the elderly who use daily wheelchair. The method used for assessment and verification of such occurrences was the interview of application, where it was possible to verify claims that highlight the need for ergonomic fit in the machine.
