Old libraries. An element for the History of Science

Abstract

The reconstruction of old libraries is a complex operation that cannot be developed, from the standpoint of methodology, without bearing in mind several lines of research. Among these, the study of catalogues and inventories has proved to be
fundamental. This paper seeks to sketch a general outline of the dynamics of circulation of the old scientific book and to reflect on the scientific content of Portuguese convent libraries.
