Abstract

Rodrigo de Castroʹs O Médico Político sketches the profile of the perfect doctor. Excellency consists, in this context, of a laborious exercise in which study plays a key role: the study of science, as well as the study of Classical letters and humanities. The medical library projected by Castro draws its coherence from the combination of science and history. Recommended authors are mainly Greek, Latin and Arabic Classical authors, and noteworthy relevance is also accorded to Iberian authors.
