The aim of this paper is to relate Herodotus’s account of the Egyptian embalming methods to Greek anatomical knowledge. Apart from placing them in their respective contexts, we argue that these passages are highly relevant for Greek anatomical knowledge and show the remarkable naturalistic mind of the historian.
