Abstract

Pindar’s sixth Olympian Ode includes a story about the birth and professional calling of Iamos, son of Apollo and founder of a famous clan of seers (manteis). This paper aims to explain the extent to which the uprootedness underlying the figure of the seer (mantis) links up with the common or civic character of certain crafts related to Apollo.
