Abstract

The Olympic Games originated in ancient Greece in the 8th century BCE and are one of the most prominent symbols of Hellenic heritage today. This sporting event brings the symbolic importance of the prizes awarded to winning athletes to the present day. These prizes are examples of surpassing human capabilities. The Olympics also affirm the universal and fraternal bond between peoples, which is renewed at each Olympiad. This reflection will focus mainly on the latter point.
