With regard to Camonian studies, the volume A lira dourada e a tuba canora (2008) constitutes, in some sense, a synthesis of Vítor Aguiar e Silva’s thought: it ranges across both lyric and epic poetry and brings together some of the most challenging reflections of the scholar who was, without doubt, one of the most distinguished Camões specialists at the turn of the century..
Here we may find multiple lines of inquiry, a considerable set of perplexities and, indeed, various provocations and pathways for new readings. This essay aims to offer a brief synthetic account of Vítor Aguiar e Silva’s thinking on Camões, not only as expressed in this book, but also as the culmination of his extensive body of work as a Camões scholar.
