“Louvado seja Deus que não sou bom”: Alberto Caeiro, São Francisco de Assis e o menino Jesus

Abstract

There are those who argue that Alberto Caeiro’s poetry is very simple: seeing and not thinking is enough. However, Caeiro is a compulsive thinker. By resorting to an apparently unsophisticated poetic discourse, the Master challenges some certainties assumed by western culture, such as the view of nature popularised by Saint Francis of Assisi.
