This article first presents a summary of the controversial issue pertaining to the bibliography on the Spanish poet Francisco de Aldana; secondly, the author intends to analyse the poet’s works looking for the so-called memory metaphors, quite common in the European literature of the Golden Age (mainly in their two most frequent classical formulations: memory-writing, memory-treasure), paying particular attention to the innovative descriptions of the mnemonic process, as understood by the Holy Fathers, presented by Aldana in his reply to his brother Cosme and in his letter to Galiano.
