¿En Atenas o en tierra de nadie? Observaciones sobre S. OC. 917

Abstract

The compound word κένανδρος, which appears in S. OC. 917, is commonly translated into, and understood as, “empty of men” or “deserted”. The commentary of the passage and its comparison with other Greek texts may induce us to consider that its meaning could derive from the context in which it appears, as well as from the cultural notion it expresses. The compound word is found in a moment of political reflection and is related to the concept of πόλις, a community whose nature is justified by the citizens inhabiting it.
