In the 16th century, following the passing of Luísa Sigeia (1522-1560), humanist author André de Resende wrote a poem in Latin on the sad occasion and had it printed, in 1561, in the typographical workshop of Germão Galharde's heirs. It was, however, its subsequent publication in France that would ensure its wider circulation. Considered by José María Maestre Maestre (2019) as a "politically incorrect" funeral poem, in this article we revisit this text, not only to make it available in Portuguese, but also to reflect upon it. After all, Neo-Latin literature may still offer fertile ground for interrogation.
