Abstract

This article aims to present the tragedy Exagoge attributed to Ezekiel, placing it within the context of the Greco-Jewish literature produced during the Hellenistic period. The 16 extant fragments, which add up to 269 lines, allow us to infer the structure of the play and the design of the plot. Our analysis will focus on the similarities and differences between Exagoge and other tragedies dating from the 5th century BC, in order to show how Ezekiel adapted the tragic model when dealing with the episode of Moses leading the Jewish out of Egypt.
