Abstract

The Etymologiae of Isidore of Seville include two paragraphs on viticulture (17. 5), and beverage (20. 3), the latter mainly dedicated to wine. Isidore does not provide specific data on Visigoth Hispania, since the interest of the author is basically lexicological. His main source is Columella, mainly in the enumeration of the different types of vineyard. There are also clear influences of Varro, Palladium, and especially of the Servius’ commentary on Virgil.
