Abstract

Although Aeneas has not yet received the same attention as other classical heroes from film directors, particularly those from Hollywood, he has been the object of cinematic representation. Interestingly, it was the Italian cinema that showed greater interest in the hero of the Aeneid. This essay intends to re-examine some previous research on this topic and to analyse and outline the guidelines that film directors, such as G. Ferroni, G. Venturini and F. Rossi, followed in order to retell the myth of the Virgilian hero. We, thus, seek to provide further information on the reception of this theme in contemporary culture.
