In 1711, Juan de Vargas composed a Latin grammar that he sought to impose as a teaching method in Jesuitical schools. His purpose was to complete and replace the most popular grammars in Spain during his time: the Arte Reformada by P. De la Cerda, the De institutione by P. Álvares and, especially, the Minerua by El Brocense, a work that had become extensively known in the Iberian Peninsula and throughout the whole of Europe.
