It wasn’t the Greeks who invented the science of ecology (although the word is of Greek origin), but their philosophers have raised the issue of the relationship of all living things among themselves and with the environment. It is within this realm of ecological concern that the rustic romanesque story Euboean by Dio of Prusa (a cynic-stoic philosopher from the 1st century after Christ), where the author praises life in harmony with nature, is situated.
